In my work for The Combine, we are in the midst of doing early stage customer discovery for a project in the home energy space. That’s a really big space, so there are a lot of questions to ask, and a lot of room for responses. For example, did you know that if you call Georgia Power and ask, they will send – free of charge – someone out to your home to do a full home energy audit? And, just because you have an audit done, they’ll give you a credit on your next bill as well as discounts on more energy efficient appliances.

Did you know that? Most people don’t. In fact, when I called Georgia Power to discuss that particular program, they said that the percentage of consumers who call in to discuss their energy usage or efficiency is incredibly low, like less than 1% of the population. Why is that? Why would any consumer spend hundreds of dollars a month and never question that expense? That’s the core of what we’re after here.
