I wrote last week how we say that we “celebrate failure”, but we really don’t. I’m sticking with that; however, there is an upcoming conference at General Assembly next week about – you guessed it – failure.
Specifically, FailCon Atlanta 2015‘s theme is “If You’re Not Failing, You’re Not Growing“. I know only a few of you have ever failed at anything, but nonetheless you might want to check this conference out. The conference is 8:45AM to 5PM with a cocktail reception to follow at GA at Ponce City Market. There will be several panels and some audience discussion, sprinkled with speakers, myself included.
I have to confess, I had never heard of FailCon before last week, when the folks at General Assembly reached out to me with the speaking opportunity. After I learned a little more about FailCon, I was all in, and I’m in the third slot after lunch, so maybe everyone will be awake again by the time I get up there.
Side note: if you haven’t been down to GA, you need to do that. Great space. Great people. Great brand. Great service.
I put my slide deck together today, in first draft form. It’s odd…I knew I had failed a
few times lot, but when I focused and wrote them all down…yikes! I’m slashing lots of material just to fit into my 45 minute allotted time, and a couple of them are really recent, like last month kind of recent. Suffice it to say, I’m a pretty good learner, and I think that comes from falling flat on my face a number of times at a number of different things over a number of years.
Don’t worry, you’ll fail, too. I promise that. But it’s not if you fail – because you will – it’s what you do afterwards that really counts.
I look forward to airing and sharing
some many of my many failures next week, and I hope you’ll join me.
