7 Upcoming Speaking Events at SuperNova South and General Assembly

Summer is almost over, the kids’ school starts next week, and the fall schedule is about to kick into high gear. I’ll be teaching, leading, and otherwise getting up in front of people on several occasions for various reasons on a plethora of different topics in the coming weeks. Here’s the list of upcoming events. If you can tolerate me blathering on in front of a room for more than a few minutes, I’d love to see you at almost all of these events. Except one. See below.

  • Digital Marketing Bootcamp Saturday August 22 from 10am – 4pm – We will crunch the 10-week Part Time Digital Marketing Class from 60 hours down to 6 hours, so this class will move fast, covering branding, metrics, the marketing funnel, owned & paid content marketing, and the marketing funnel. Put your seat belts on and come ready to learn and apply that learning immediately to your organization.
  • Blogging for Your Brand Bootcamp Saturday August 29 from 10am  – 2pm – We’ll expand on the original “Blogging for Your Brand” seminar, and dive deep into blogging platforms, getting started, writing, best practices, promoting and measuring your blog. You’ll leave this session with a clear road map for creating your own blog, as well as your first blog post (or two!).
  • Digital Marketing Bootcamp Saturday September 19 from 10am – 4pm – same stuff as above, different day.
  • Advanced Social Media Strategies Monday September 28 from 1pm – 4pm – Take a half day off of your Monday, and dig deep into best practices and new practices for the major social media channels specifically, and your social media marketing strategy in general. Social media is an amazing tool for your organization, if used wisely, properly, and professionally.
  • SuperNova South October 5 – 9 at Tech Square – I’m honored to be included in this year’s Startups track. I’ll be speaking on the topic of Product Management Discipline in Startups. David Cummings recently wrote that “there’s an even harder position to fill (than software engineers and sales reps) and that’s the role of the product manager.” We’ll be discussing exactly how one goes about the discipline of product management in the early stages of a startup. My specific time slot is Friday, October 9 at 9am. Register here.
  • How to Measure Social Media ROI Monday October 12 from 9am – 12 noon – Social media marketing is not free and, done properly and consistently, social media can generate huge returns. Just like every other arrow in your marketing quiver, social media marketing must be measured, campaign by campaign, so you can properly calculate your ROI. If you don’t measure your ROI, you cannot improve your ROI.
  • Digital Marketing Bootcamp Saturday October 17 from 10am – 4pm – same stuff again, different day. This all day class is becoming very popular among folks who are trying to either decide if they want to go deep into learning digital marketing and those who really need to understand what they can and cannot do at their current organization. It’s a fun day, includes lunch, and you’ll learn a lot.

I hope to see you at one or more of these great classes, but there’s another class, too. Unfortunately, for those who didn’t get there in time, the 10-week Part Time Digital Marketing class starts August 18th, and is SOLD OUT! Woo hoo! That’s right, 25 eager students will become new digital marketers before Thanksgiving. And this time we’re doing something a little different, as we engage Atlanta’s nonprofit community, and have each student adopt a nonprofit and create a digital marketing strategy for that nonprofit. Should be a great class, and I’ll be sharing our learning experience as go. If you play in the digital marketing space, and have something unique to share, please send me an email. We’d love to have you as a guest speaker at one of our classes. Here’s the syllabus. Check it out and see where you’d fit in best.

  • More Speaking & Teaching In May

We had so much fun last Saturday offering the Digital Marketing Bootcamp at General Assembly that we’re going to do it again in June! It really was a great class, thanks to the 14 future digital marketers who attended and shared their visions for what they want to do in digital. We’ll be offering that…

  • The [DGM] Breakfast Club

No, this was not us this morning, but I did spend an entire Saturday with 14 future digital marketers at General Assembly. The genesis of this offering was the 10-week Digital Marketing class that I led from Jan – Mar of this year. In the final session before Demo Night, we did a complete review…

  • Buffer, Kabbage, and Suster agree: blog.

I preach every day that every company should blog, especially startups and small businesses with limited marketing budgets. Pushing your content out via your blog is the starting point for your entire digital marketing strategy, which encompasses your content marketing strategy. Blogging requires only your time, and your organized thoughts put to keystrokes that tell…

  • Got Presentations? Create Blog Content.

The average American reads approximately 300 words per minute. The average time that a speaker talks per slide of a presentation (one with slides, of course) is at least 30 seconds, and, depending upon the complexity of the content, up to three minutes per slide.  For the purpose of this blog post, let’s assume it’s…

  • 1-Day Digital Marketing Bootcamp @ GA

Next Saturday, May 2, we will be hosting a 1-Day Digital Marketing Bootcamp at General Assembly in Ponce City Market from 10am to 4pm. After leading the 10-week part time Digital Marketing class this winter, we decided that a one-day, fast moving but hands on primer would be valuable to those who either (a) need…

  • The Interview

When I’m not creating content (aka writing), I’m getting content from those who know it best: entrepreneurs. That’s the heart of the routine as your content creator & strategist. I ask you an open ended question, you tell me your entire story, which then becomes blog fodder for your content marketing calendar. If only it…

  • Two TED Talks That Tempered My Tongue

When I started Pitch Practice in June of 2013, I didn’t know what it would eventually be or what value it might have to others. It was simply a fun gathering of fellow entrepreneurs to help each other answer the question, “So, what do you do?” a little better, and also help us prepare for…

  • Four Upcoming Speaking Events @ GA Atlanta

My speaking & teaching calendar for April and May just got a little busier, thanks to the great folks at General Assembly. If you haven’t visited their sweet new space at Ponce City Market, you should do yourself a favor and head to midtown Atlanta and have a look. While you’re there, you can get…

  • Time

Building on one of the most important aspects of our Digital Marketing Demo Night on Thursday, I need to emphasize the importance of time, mainly how fast it passes, both in the macro and micro. In the macro, guess what? It’s spring. How’d that happen? We get busy. We plan each week in minute detail,…
